Yield Management (YM) has been described as a method that can help an organization to sell the right inventory, to the right customer, at the right time for the right price (Kimes, 2002). Application of YM strategies involves the company to practice market segmentation strategies; In Malaysia the effect of the application of segmentation strategies on hotel’s revenue management performance is unknown. To illustrate the effect of market segmentation strategy on revenue management performance the measurement used will be revenue per available room (RevPAR) analysis, differs from traditional lodging-market analysis in that it arrives at an estimate of annual room revenue (ARR) by considering average daily rate (ADR) and occupancy levels together rather than treating the two elements separately. This paper seeks to conceptualize the relationship of application of market segmentation strategy and revenue management performance by four (4) and five (5) star hotels in Klang Vallley. Research outcomes will show a positive relationship between hotel that practise market segmentation strategies and revenue management performance. It will also show the segmentation strategies hotel practise to attract most contributing market. For the conclusion, Hotel that practice effective market segmentation will have higher performance compared to other hotel

Technological advances have revolutionized the safety standards of cars in this modern era. It has become the integral part of the car itself and plays a major role in saving thousands if not millions of lives each year. This has brought about the creation of institutions such the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and the introduction of the Malaysian Vehicle Assessment Programme (MyVAP). However, there is still a lack of rules and enforcement of safety standards in Malaysia. This paper was done to critically analyse the current situation in Malaysia regarding the issue of inadequate Acts, rules and regulations governing safety standard of passenger cars. This research represents the initial effort to provide comparisons and perhaps justifications towards an improvement of overall safety standards of cars in Malaysia by improving the already available safety standards or by enacting a new legislation in the future. The important comparative subjects in this research are the Third Australian Design Rule (ADR) governed under the Motor Vehicles Standards Act 1989 in Australia and also the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Regulations which is legislated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States of America (USA)

Sample of 400 foreign tourists at Kuala Lumpur International Airport were selected. The most important dimension that attracts online purchasing was selected throughout the study. The study also concluded that website information was the most important variables in hotel website dimension. Practically, this research has shown the importance of understanding in choosing the best and appropriate website dimension to encourage customer to purchase via online

Relevant local fatwā on the issues of using human tissues in articular cartilage tissue engineering experimentation

    Get PDF
In articular cartilage tissue engineering (ACTE) experimentation, the researchers have utilised cells and tissues sampled from the human donor for research purposes. The cells and tissues may be harvested from the living donor’s discarded tissues through a medical procedure, e.g. the total knee replacement surgery. The small pieces of a tissue sample taken from the human donor are essential to study the articular cartilage regeneration for treating joint disease, i.e. osteoarthritis. However, the procedure has raised some ethical and fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) concerns. The study was done by utilising the secondary analysis of local Muslim jurists’ opinions (fatwā) related to the sampling of human biological samples. This paper explores the scenarios of using cell sources taken from the living human donor through the existing fatwā of local Muslim jurists (fuqahā`). The scenarios include: (1) taking samples from the living donor, and (2) discarding human tissue, as practised in ACTE experimentation. The current fatwā has shown that honouring every part of a human body is considered essential in Islam. ACTE researchers may utilise the biological samples from living donors as alternatives in studying articular cartilage regeneration. The donation of human biological samples for research purposes in ACTE experimentation, obtained from a medical procedure, may be permissible, should the stipulated terms and conditions were observed, and the procedure does not cause any additional harm to the dono

Self-regulated Learning: Motivation and Learning Strategies in the Islamic Education Course among Premier Polytechnic Students in Malaysia Based on Demographic Information

    Get PDF
This study aims to identify the differences of the level of academic self-regulation (or self-regulated learning strategies) in the Islamic Education course based on students' academic information. On the basis of a self-reported questionnaire, the data were obtained from 341 students, who have taken the Islamic Education course at three premier polytechnics in Malaysia. Statistical Software for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 19.0 was used to analyze the data. The study found that male students and students who have actively involved in the co-curricular activities have shown to have higher level of motivation. Regardless of the demographic background, the utilization of learning strategies is equal, except the control of test anxiety and the time study environmental management. Both learning strategies are found to be highly utilized by the students who obtained grade-A in the Islamic Education subject (in SPM) than students who obtained grade-B and grade-C

    Get PDF
An amperometric biosensor for the quantitative measurement of glucose is reported. The biosensor is based on a biocomposite that is homogeneous and easily prepared. This biocomposite is made of polyethylene glycol (PEG), Cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), glucose oxidase (GOx), and zirconium oxide (ZrO2) nanoparticles. Effect of applied potential, pH, nanocomposite layer, ratio of zirconium oxide nanoparticles (ZrO2) to polyethylene glycol (PEG), concentration of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde (Fc) and concentration of enzyme that governed the analytical performance of the biosensor have been studied. The biosensor was applied to detect glucose with a linear calibration range from 0.1 mM to 12 mM and limit of detection 0.04 mM. The variation coefficient (RSD) for repeatability was 7.5% for ten successive assays while 6.01% (n = 5) for reproducibility test demonstrating that the biosensor fabrication process is reproducible. Common interfering compounds on the amperometric response of the sensor were investigated and discussed herein
